Guitar Wolf is surely one of the craziest Japanese band that you can see on stage. Two weeks ago, they played in Paris at Le Petit Bain during their European tour. On this special occasion, we took the opportunity to meet Seiji, lead singer and guitarist of the band, for an interview before the show. Enjoy !

Check it out :

Hi, thank you very much for this interview. First of all, could you present yourself and the band, for our readers who don’t know you yet ?

Guitar Wolf exists since 1987. Our purpose is to make jet rock’n roll sounds, so we always put explosive sounds in our music but we were always told that we were way too loud. Anyway, our music is jet rock’n roll so please, understand us ! (laughs)

So you’ve been on the music scene for a long time now, how could you describe the evolution of your carrier until today ?

It’s almost 30 years now, this year 29 and next year 30. I’d say that I love beer ! So with beer, time freezes ! (laughs)

When you write your songs, where does your inspiration come from ?

From space ! I’m always waiting for something to come out of space ! It’s like something told me « Hey, write this song ! ».

Music video of the title song ‘T-Rex from a Tiny Space Yojouhan‘ off of their latest album :

Could you describe the concept of your latest album « T-Rex from a Tiny Space Yojouhan » ?

I’m a country boy. I was born there. So, when I was 18, I went to Tokyo. I was surprised and so shocked, because it’s a big city ! Because I was poor, I lived in a very small room, the size of a Yojouhan. « Yojouhan » equals 4 tatamis [editor’s note : a tatami is a flooring material] and a half. So, that size is traditionally for poor students. I was living there so at this time I had nothing. I only had confidence and I thought that something big would happen in my future. This dream was as big as a T-Rex ! I wanted to break this ceiling and I wanted to show myself in Tokyo and in the entire world. That’s why this T-Rex is from a tiny space !

Today is not your first time in France, how did you enjoy your latest performance and how did you find the French public ?

I love Paris and French people ! I feel that France is a little bit different from all other countries. So, French public is very unique ! If I had the opportunity, I’d even like to live in Paris in a few years !

Before going on stage, do you have any little ritual ?

We drink beer ! (laughs) We also pray Andromeda [editor’s note : a constellation] for the success of the show !

After this European tour, which is really huge, what are you next projects ?

Maybe a scandal with a French actress ! (laughs)

Unfortunately, here comes the end of our interview ! Have you got any special message to your French fans ?

Sometimes I watch Youtube and I hear unique sounds from French artists ! So, please come to Japan ! Now you have Facebook, and there are many ways to access to music ! So, listen to some Japanese music !

Thank you very much for this interview !

Thank you !

Thanks to Seiji, tour organizers and Petit Bain’s team !
We’ll publish later our live report and our pictures of the show !
