TERCERA TRAPs is a Japanese boys band which made its debut in November 2017. This group is young and has only a few months of experience but the members are full of energy and motivation, in order to perfect themselves. They aim to bring happiness to the entire world!
But how did they end up at Japan Expo? TERCERA TRAPs participated in Tokyo Candoll -BOYS-, a contest organised for the second time in a row for the male edition (the female edition of the contest was created before). TERCERA TRAPs follow EPIC STAR, who were the winners last year. Thanks to their winning, they had the opportunity to come in France and perform on the Karasu stage at Japan Expo!
As they are still a rookie band, we met TERCERA TRAPs’ members to find out more about them during an interview within the festival. Enjoy!
Hi, thank you for this interview! At first, could you present yourselves?
Hidenori: I’m Hidenori, I embody the color red.
Yuto: My name is Yuto and I’m 16 years old. I’m the color pink.
Tsukijiro: I’m the color white, Tsukijiro.
Yoshito: I am Yoshito, the color blue.
How did you find the name of your band?
Yuto: We did not choose our name, our management did. (laughs)
So, does your name have a particular meaning?
Hidenori: “TERCERA” is a Spanish word, and it means “third”. This word was chosen because we are the third band our label has launched. For “TRAPs”, it’s the idea of an actual trap.
You’re here at Japan expo after winning the contest Tokyo Candoll – BOYS- 2018. Why did you decide to participate in this competition?
Hidenori: Our senpai’s band [ndlr : “senpai” are artists who have more years of experience] lost the competition last year. We decided to participate to win, like some kind of revenge!
According to you, what made the difference for you in this contest?
Hidenori: We really felt a lot of happiness, but a lot of fans and our staff also supported us, and that’s what made us win this competition.
Tsukijiro officially joined the band in April 2018. To prepare yourselves for the contest, was it additionnel stress or an advantage for the other members Hidenori, Yuto and Yoshito?
Yuto: Stress! (laughs)
Yoshito: It’s not really stress, it’s just more work!
Hidenori: We especially had to change our choreographies, so it was more work to do.
You aim to “bring happiness in the entire world”. According to you, why is music a good way to achieve this?
Tsukijiro: Noise is something we need around ourselves, and being able to master this with songs and bringing feelings to it, this is what brings happiness into this world. This is how we feel useful.
Which one of your songs delivers this message the best?
Tsukijiro: There is no specific song, our music in general brings happiness. It’s even beyond the idea of a genre.
What kind of impact would you have on the French audience after this first time at Japan Expo?
Tsukijiro: It’s not really an impact, because people have fun during our lives, and our music is something that’s spreading.
It’s the first time you’re coming in France as a group. Did you already have the opportunity to travel in Europe?
Hidenori: Yes, in Spain!
Yuto: To Hawaii!
Hidenori: But it’s not in Europe! (laughs)
Tsukijiro: For Yoshito and I it’s the first time.
How was travelling for the both of you?
Tsukijiro: Taking the plane was fine overall, but the problem is language… We are not able to communicate.
So, is there any other travel you would like to do?
Tsukijiro: Guam! It’s some kind of Hawaii! (laughs)
Except music, what do you do during your free time?
Hidenori: I’m watching anime.
Yoshito: I love watching movies.
Tsukijiro: I love art and I also create clothes.
Yuto: I like roller coasters.
However, to come back to your live from yesterday, what was your feeling towards the French audience?
Hidenori: During the live, everyone was giving its best, people were motivated and happy. Right after, we held our signing session, and we had positive feedbacks there. We were told it was good and we’re really glad we had such feedbacks.
We’re often told that French people are moving more than the Japanese audience, what do you think about that?
Hidenori: It’s funny!
Yoshito: French people do imitations, with choreos etc (laughs).
Hidenori: The French audience is really loud, and people feel the ambiance well, so it’s a little bit different from Japanese people.
For the end of this interview, do you have a last message to share?
Yoshito: We would like to come back to Japan Expo next year, to meet you all again!
The band suffered some major changes since its Japan Expo’s trip: Yuto left the band one week after the event in France, and now three members have been added. These three young men are called Lapin, Lucia and HARUTA. Furthermore, the name of the band was changed too, and TERCERA TRAPs are now called TERCERA TRAPs MOIS!
