Hello guys, can you please introduce yourself and tell us more about the meaning of your name?
Youngbin: Hello, I’m the unexpected charm of the group, Youngbin! The group name BLANK2Y is a cobination of the word “blank” and the word “key”!
Sungjun: Hello, I’m Sungjun of BLANK2Y! The group name BLANK2Y is a combination of the word “blank” and the word “key” which express the meaning of wanting to open up a blank and infinite space with a key and fill it up along with the fans.
Can you tell us individually about the moment you started dreaming of becoming a singer?
Donghyuk: My teacher during first grade gave me a chance to sing in front of my peers, and I got a lot of compliments about my singing skills so I’ve always felt that singing makes me happy. Since then, I dreamed of becoming a singer!
Mikey: When I was in 8th grade, I had concerns about my career ever since my after school activity, which I was very passionate about, ended. Then, while I was watching a music show in Japan, I started to dream about becoming a singer after watching AAA perform “Lil’ Infinity”. My interest in K-Pop grew when I was a junior in high school, and watching Yuta of NCT perform on stage made me more determined to pursue my dream as a K-Pop artist.
You are all so different, coming from different backgrounds (as a baseball player, coming from Japan)… How do you manage to be this harmonious in what you are doing ? What’s your method?
U: All the members have similar hobbies and we tend to play games together a lot which really brought us closer together. Also, we get a sense of becoming unified as a team whenever we practice our performance and we have great teamwork as well.
Can you speak about your music style? How would you describe it?
Youngbin: I would define our music as something that could positively affect the public with the group’s unique passion and confidence.
You’ve just made your comeback with K2Y II : PASSION [FUEGO], please, tell us more about it.
Sungjun: The album K2Y II : PASSION [FUEGO] contains BLANK2Y’s unique passion and power that could spark K2YWE’s inner passion!!
You also released a lot of content on Youtube. Do you have a video, a performance or a show you want to share with your fans that represents you the most? Please share the link if it has been released already.
Sodam: You will be able to see our performance showcase videos as well as the BLANK2Y’s series that shows the group chemistry. I strongly recommend it!
During your pre-debut, you’ve also interpreted a lot of covers, which one is your favorite (individually and as a group) ?
DK: My personal favorite is “THRILL RIDE” by THE BOYZ. It is a cover video that shows BLANK2Y’s refreshing side very well.
Louis: My favorite is “Deja Vu” by ATEEZ which I did a cover of. I’ve always looked up to them as an artist and I just love the song itself as well.
Since Covid has changed a lot the way groups are now performing, are you looking forward meeting your fans abroad, meeting them in Korea ? What do you want to do with them and for them ?
Mikey: I am fluttering with excitement. Before the debut, the comments from our CEO that we will be going on tour didn’t seem real, but after we debuted and started to grow a fandom, I’m overwhelmed by the fact that we have fans all over the world.
Can you tell us more (if possible) about your future projects ?
DK: BLANK2Y will show various sides of the group through different music and performances, and we are also planning to visit as many countries as possible with a lot of events for the fans. Please look forward to it!
