Wi-Fi-5 est un groupe d’idols japonaises composé de cinq membres : Takano Nagisa, Sae, Shiratori Raimu – originaires du Japon – Tomiko Claire – de nationalité américaine – et Simon – d’origine chinoise-. Les cinq jeunes filles ont débuté en 2017 sur la scène J-Pop et se sont notamment fait connaître après avoir remporté la finale de la populaire audition japonaise Miss iD. Cette audition tient son nom du fait qu’elle met en avant des jeunes filles qui présentent leur IDentité et souhaitent devenir des IDols.
Le groupe a sorti son premier single intitulé “Hajimari No Courage” en novembre 2017 qui a ensuite été utilisé comme générique pour la seconde saison de l’anime “Youkai Apartment no Yuuga na Nichijou”. Leur second single se nomme “Nya-o!” et n’est autre que le générique de fin de la deuxième saison de l’anime “Chi : une vie de chat” que vous connaissez probablement déjà. Ce petit chat est rapidement devenu célèbre au Japon puis à l’international.

Bonjour, merci beaucoup pour cette interview. Pourriez-vous commencer par vous présenter pour nos lecteurs ?
Tomiko Claire : Bonjour je m’appelle Claire, je suis américaine.
Simon : Enchantée, je suis Simon.
Shiratori Raimu : Je suis Shiratori Raimu, j’ai 13 ans.
Takano Nagisa : Je m’appelle Takano Nagisa et j’ai 16 ans.
Vous vous êtes formées grâce au concours miss iD, en étant finalistes en 2016 et 2017, qu’est-ce que cette compétition vous a apportée ?
Shiratori Raimu : En fait j’ai été sélectionnée comme finaliste mais je n’ai pas acquis un titre de ce concours. Donc je trouvais un manque en moi-même, et ça ne m’a pas vraiment donné de force.
Simon : Ça fait un an que je suis au Japon et j’ai passé ce concours six mois après être arrivée. C’était le début de mon histoire au Japon. Je suis venue au Japon toute seule et j’ai été sélectionnée en tant que prix personnel des juges. Ça m’a vraiment apporté quelque chose, je me suis sentie bien.
Tomiko Claire : Oui, je ne m’attendais pas du tout à passer la première étape de miss ID, en particulier parce que je suis américaine et je ne parle pas vraiment japonais. J’étais vraiment très surprise et reconnaissante d’avoir été choisie par ce concours. Je ne m’y attendais pas. J’ai gagné beaucoup de confiance en moi et je me suis dit que je pourrais rendre mon rêve possible au Japon.
Pourriez-vous nous expliquer le choix de votre nom de groupe “Wi-Fi-5” ?
Tomiko Claire : Le nom de notre groupe est WI-FI-5 parce que le wi-fi est un réseau qui permet de connecter un grand nombre de personnes à travers le monde dans n’importe quel endroit et il peut franchir les barrière et faire tomber les frontières. Et nous espérons pouvoir faire la même chose puisque les membres de notre groupe viennent d’endroits très différents. D’une autre part nous voulons pouvoir rencontrer des personnes de partout dans le monde, sans frontière.
Takano Nagisa : Honnêtement nous avons été très surprises. A la fin de l’année dernière nous sommes allées en Chine, et ensuite à Londres. A présent c’est Japan Expo. A chaque fois que nous partons dans un nouveau lieu, on se demande si nous en sommes capables.
Simon : Avant cette interview, nous sommes allées en dédicaces. Dès que nous sommes arrivées il y avait beaucoup de monde alors qu’on ne s’y attendait pas. On regrette en quelque sorte de ne pas pouvoir discuter à cause de la langue. Le public est très chaleureux et ça nous donne vraiment envie d’échanger. On a parlé avec un peu d’anglais, un tout petit peu de français, et nous avions vraiment envie de communiquer.
Toutes les membres ne viennent pas du Japon, est-ce que vous avez l’intention de mettre en avant à l’avenir ce côté international ?
Takano Nagisa : Oui bien sûr, nous aimerions beaucoup le mettre en avant. Comme les Etats-Unis sont divisés en Etats, le Japon est divisé en préfectures, telles que Osaka, Nagano ou encore Nagoya. C’est notre but. On veut unir le monde entier.
Simon : Il faut dans un premier temps que nous arrivions à nous construire une carrière au Japon. Ensuite nous nous concentrerons sur le monde entier.
Tomiko Claire : Je voudrais aller dans la province de Kona en Chine.
Takano Nagisa : Moi j’aimerai aller dans le pays natal de chaque membres.
Shiratori Raimu : J’aimerai visiter Okinawa.
Simon : Pour ma part j’aimerai aller à Shanghai. C’est un endroit très animé.
Tomiko Claire : J’aimerai aussi aller en Amérique et nous pourrions aller à San Francisco et comme ça tout le monde pourrait venir chez moi. Je pense que ça pourrait être très amusant.
Avez-vous un dernier message à faire passer au public français ?
Shiratori Raimu : Les français sont très gentils et très accueillants. Ils s’amusent bien en écoutant la musique. Nous sommes tombées amoureuses des français.
Takano Nagisa : On continuera de faire des efforts pour pouvoir revenir en France.
Tomiko Claire : La France est un très beau pays avec des gens vraiment formidables. Nous sommes très honorées de pouvoir nous produire sur scène ici et tout le monde a été tellement gentil avec nous. Nous sommes très heureuses d’avoir pu venir ici.
Simon : Les français sont vraiment très gentils. Je vais continuer à travailler et à étudier la langue. Quand je reviendrai ici je remercierai encore le public français.

Wi-Fi-5 is a band of Japanese idols composed of five members: Takano Nagisa, Sae, Shiratori Raimu – from Japan – Tomiko Claire – from the United States – and Simon – from China. The five girls debuted back in 2017 on the J-Pop stage and started to make themselves known after they won the final part of the famous Japanese audition Miss iD. The name of this audition comes from the fact that the girls are coming to show their own IDentity and they also want to become IDols.

Hello, thank you very much for this interview. Could you start by introducing yourselves to our readers?
Tomiko Claire: Hi, my name is Claire, I am American.
Simon: Nice to meet you, I am Simon.
Shiratori Raimu: I am Shiratori Raimu, I am 13 years old.
Takano Nagisa: My name is Takano Nagisa and I am 16 years old.
You formed the group thanks to the contest miss iD, being finalists in 2016 and 2017, what did this contest bring you?
Takano Nagisa: I consider miss iD to be the starting point of our group and our complicity. The fact of being finalists was what gave us the strength to become the group we are today. That’s the impression I have.
Shiratori Raimu: Actually, I was selected as finalist but I didn’t receive any title in this contest. So I found something lacking in me, and it didn’t give me any strength.
Simon: It has been a year since I arrived in Japan and I went to this contest six months after. It was the beginning of my story in Japan. I came to Japan, all alone and I was selected as personal price by the judges. It really brought me something, I felt good.
Tomiko Claire: Yes, I didn’t expect at all to pass the first step on miss iD, in particular due to the fact that I am American and I don’t speak Japanese. I was really surprised and grateful to be chosen in the contest. I wasn’t expecting it. I acquired a lot of confidence and I thought I could live my dream in Japan.
Could you explain the choice of the name of the group “Wi-Fi-5”?
Tomiko Claire: The name of the group is WI-FI-5 because wi-fi is a network that connect a huge number of people throughout the world in every corner of it, it can cross borders and break down frontiers. And we hope to do the same thing as each members of the group is from a different place. On the other hand, we would like to meet people from all around the world without any borders.
You debuted in October 2017, how did you react when you learn that you would be producing on stage for foreign fans, here at the Japan Expo?
Takano Nagisa: Honestly, we were surprised. At the end of last year, we went to China and then London. Now we are at the Japan Expo. Each time we leave for another place, we wonder if we can do it.
Simon: Before this interview, we did a fan sign. As soon as we arrived, there was a huge line while we weren’t expecting that much. We regret we couldn’t talk to them, because of the language barrier. The public is very welcoming and it gave us the desire to exchange with them. We can talk a little bit of English, an even fewer bit of French and we wanted to communicate.
Not every members are from Japan, are you going to put forward the international side in the future?
Takano Nagisa: Yes, of course, we would like to show that more. As the United-States are divided in states, Japan is divided in prefecture, such as Osaka, Nagano or Nagoya. It is our goal. We want to unite the whole world.
Simon: We want to start to build our career in Japan, then we will concentrate on the world.

Tomiko Claire: I would like to see Kona in China.
Takano Nagisa: Me, I would like to go to the hometowns of each members.
Shiratori Raimu: I’d like to visit Okinawa.
Simon: For me, I’d like to visit Shanghai. It is a very animated place.
Tomiko Claire: I would like to go to America and we could go to San Francisco and like that everyone could go to my place. I think it would be amusing.
Do you have a last message for the French public?
Shiratori Raimu: French people are very nice and welcoming. They enjoy listening to music. We fell in love with French people.
Takano Nagisa: We will keep pushing forward so we can come back.
Tomiko Claire: France is an amazing country, with amazing people. We are honored to be able to produce on stage here and everyone has been so nice with us. We are happy to have been able to come here.
Simon: French people are really nice. I will keep on working and studying the language. When we come back I will thanks the French public.
